The Helias Chapel, located at the center of the school, provides a quiet space for reflection, prayer, and spiritual growth, offering students an environment to strengthen and grow their faith.
According to Father Paul Clark, “If the school were a part of the body, the chapel would be the heart.” This metaphor shows the important role the chapel plays in the school’s spiritual life. In the chapel students can reflect, connect with God, and strengthen their faith.
“We all worship something, and the chapel directs us to worship God” stated Father Clark.
The design of the chapel reflects the values and spirit of the school.
According to Father Clark, the chapel “captures the colors and spirit of our school,” pointing toward God and reminding us of our identity as children of God.
For Joey Jones (11), who frequently serves during Mass in the chapel, the chapel is a place where both individuals and the whole school community can grow spiritually together.
“I know people who don’t have the chance to go on the weekends, so seeing them at mass while I’m serving, I know they’re growing in faith.”
Noah Doolittle (11) believes the chapel helps bring the school community together, not just as individuals, but as a group.
“I think the chapel is important to the spiritual life of the whole school. We all go there for prayer in religion class, and all the sports teams can grow together through morning masses.”
Dolittle also likes the chapel’s design.
“I like the big windows and the sunlight,” Dolittle said. [These features] provide a calming, warm feeling […] which helps create a peaceful spiritual atmosphere for everyone who visits.”
Mrs. Welch, a teacher and former student at Helias Catholic, shared her first impression of the chapel:
“When I saw the new chapel for the first time, I was in awe. It’s very beautiful, and there’s a lot of natural light that comes in. I think that this chapel does a great job of showcasing our school’s Catholic identity.”
Through its design, purpose, and the experiences it fosters, the chapel continues to be a key part of the faith formation of the Helias community.
